BERLIN -- BYD is lowering prices for its EVs in Germany, most significantly for its Atto 3 compact SUV, as the price war between automakers for electric cars gains momentum.
At the beginning of the year, the Chinese automaker’s prices fell by up to 15 percent, according to a report in Automotive News Europe sister publication Automobilwoche.
The Atto 3 Comfort line is now available for 37,990 euros ($41,700), while the better-equipped Design edition costs 39,990 euros ($44,000).
The prices of the other models on offer in Germany fell significantly less, with the Dolphin dropping about 8 percent, and the Seal falling 5 percent.
BYD has only made slow progress in Germany. Last year, the Federal Motor Transport Authority recorded 4,139 new registrations of BYD models, including 700 units in December.
The Atto 3 accounted for more than 90 percent of BYD’s sales in Germany. Dolphin (68 units) and Seal (21 units) sold significantly less well.
